Quest Items & NPCs: What Not to Sell or Cook

Most route blockers are not fishing problems — they are protected-item and NPC hand-in problems. Until the related hand-in is done, do not sell, cook, drop, or let random co-op players hold special bait and boss drops.

The Lighthouse Beer → Empty Beer Can → Spider Crab route is the first 'sell it wrong and you're stuck' trap.
📦

TL;DR: Safe order is "NPC task → protected item → boss trigger → boss drop → NPC hand-in → Radar/next island". Normal catches fund progress; special bait and boss drops unlock progress. If you can't classify an item, keep it until the current NPC chain is done.

1. Protected-item map

Lighthouse · Beer / Empty Beer Can No sell/cook

Spider Crab trigger route. Selling or cooking before the boss hard-locks you.

Lighthouse · Spider Crab meat Don't leave

Boat Keys / route hand-in. Don't leave the island without handing in.

Forest · 3 Leeches / Modified Leech Don't scatter

Giant Piranha trigger. Don't let teammates drop the items.

Forest · Skeleton / boss drop Don't sail

Desert route hand-in. Don't sail away before NPC confirmation.

Desert · Endangered creature / Carrot Not normal bait

Pufferfish trigger. Treating Carrot as normal bait breaks the line.

Desert · Pufferfish drop Don't lose

Rocks route hand-in. Don't lose it in arena clutter.

Rocks · Tuna No sell/cook/eat

Albatross setup. Selling, cooking or eating it mid-route breaks progression.

Rocks · Albatross Head Don't leave early

Volcano route hand-in. Don't leave before the marker/route advances.

Volcano · Fish Bucket / whale triggers Don't cook first

Late boss route. Don't experiment with cooking first.

2. NPC hand-in audit

  • Did an NPC ask for this step? → find the route NPC before farming.
  • Is the special item in the route owner's inventory? → regroup and locate it; start the boss only when ready.
  • Was the boss drop picked up? → search the arena immediately, then return to the NPC.
  • Did dialogue/reward/Radar change after hand-in? → re-talk/turn-in or check item ownership, then move on.
  • In co-op? → still use one owner; host verifies route state.

3. Co-op ownership rule

Let the host or one chosen player carry every special item and boss drop until the route advances. Others can farm money, fight, or scout, but should not casually pick up and sell route items.

4. Cooking and selling rule

Normal catches fund progress; special bait and boss drops unlock progress. If you can't classify an item, keep it until the current NPC chain is complete.

5. FAQ

What should I not sell? Special bait, route items, and boss drops before hand-ins.
Can I cook quest items? Avoid cooking anything tied to NPC tasks, boss triggers, or boss drops.
Who holds quest items in co-op? The host or one route owner.
Why doesn't my route advance? You likely missed a boss drop, wrong NPC, wrong owner, or unfinished hand-in.

About 80% of "stuck" moments aren't about fighting — they're about selling, cooking, or handing a key item to a teammate. Lock route items on the host and the five islands flow.
